Shutterstock has announced an expanded partnership with OpenAI

July 13, 2023 By admin Leave a Comment

Shutterstock, a leading global creative platform, has announced an expanded partnership with OpenAI, a pioneer in artificial intelligence. The six-year agreement solidifies Shutterstock’s position as a provider of high-quality training data for OpenAI models, enabling transformative capabilities for brands, digital media, and marketing companies.

Under the partnership, OpenAI has obtained a license for access to additional Shutterstock training data, including the platform’s image, video, and music libraries, along with associated metadata. Shutterstock, in turn, gains priority access to the latest OpenAI technology and continues to integrate DALL·E’s generative text-to-image capabilities into its platform. The integration also enables Shutterstock customers to leverage synthetic editing capabilities, allowing them to edit and transform any image in the Shutterstock library, accelerating content creation and ideation. Additionally, the partnership aims to bring generative AI capabilities to mobile users through Shutterstock’s GIPHY platform.

Shutterstock’s CEO, Paul Hennessy, emphasized the company’s commitment to driving AI tech innovation and becoming the data and distribution partner of choice for leaders in generative AI. OpenAI’s COO, Brad Lightcap, highlighted the collaboration’s potential to empower brands, digital media, and marketing companies, enabling transformative possibilities in content creation and ideation.

This partnership expansion is part of Shutterstock’s ongoing efforts to bring AI advancements to the creative industry. The company previously launched the AI Image Generator, powered by DALL·E, enabling users to create customized visuals instantly. Shutterstock also introduced the Contributor Fund, compensating artists for their content’s role in training Shutterstock’s generative technology and providing ongoing royalties tied to licensing activity for newly generated assets.

Shutterstock has also collaborated with industry leaders such as NVIDIA, Meta, and LG to develop generative AI tools and standards across 3D, images, and text. With its vast and diverse content library enriched with metadata, Shutterstock remains at the forefront of training AI capabilities.
